Very pleased to say that 1422 have successfully ceased all business with Telefonica / Movistar ! They no longer supply our landline, ADSL, calls or mobiles.

It was absolutely painless and now A LOT cheaper.

In the summer we transferred over to Jazztel for our line and ADSL. Monthly costs are far less, ADSL speed as good, 60 mins to mobiles for free and of course free calls in Spain. Our typical bills have gone from an average of over 100€ down to 40€.

Since that change I now work for a company who provide telecomms and that includes mobile services. I wouldn't recommend anything unless I thought it was so good I'd have it for myself. It is and I have.

I am now a MÁSMóvil customer (kicked Movistar out completely) and my bill has just gone from over 70€ down to 7€ !! And that includes Data !

What do MÁSMóvil do differently?
well currently they don't offer mobile phones - sounds odd but rather than try and tie you in to a contract with a new mobile phone they simply focus on cheap tariffs and call rates and you can use any unlocked phone on their network. This means that you can keep your number and your phone. Why have to change everything just because you want cheaper calls ?

Calls in Spain are 3/5/8/10 cents per minute depending on the tariff you choose. Calls to the UK are only 5cents to a landline and 14cents to a mobile. As with all mobile networks there are connection charges of 15cents in Spain or 36Cents for international calls.

If you are in Spain for only short periods then Pay as you go (PAYG) with no minimum monthly spend is the best option. (Tarifa 10) You do not get charged when you receive a call unlike many other PAYG services.

If you are here for longer periods then you have a choice of more tariffs and a choice of how you want to pay - Auto Top ups are popular using a visa or mastercard or of course there are direct debits through your Spanish bank.

  • No contracts - no tie ins
  • Keep your number
  • Free to transfer
  • SMS only 8 cents in spain or 25c international
  • Calls 3/5/8/10 cents per min to spanish landlines or mobiles
  • English Customer services and website
  • Full control over your charging method and tariff

I have gone for the tarifa8 for calls (8cents per min) and the minimum spend is 4€ a month Plus DATA 150MB for 3€ a month. So that's a minimum spend of 7€ a month and I have DATA for my iPhone when I want it. Plus they throw in an extra 30MB for free - who knew? MAS operate on the Orange network so I get great coverage and I pay by direct debit. Couldn't be easier.

If you are interested then all you need to do is make sure your phone is unlocked and you'll need the number that appears on your SIM card. The MÁSMóvil website is HERE for further information and ordering... but it would be extra nice if you could order through me plus you'd get a free SIM. And of course if you have any questions then you can ask me HERE
