As planned our pool is undergoing some major maintenance work currently. It has been emptied and thoroughly cleaned and all the broken and missing tiles have been replaced.

The grass around the pool has been drastically cut back and new grass seed is now being allowed to take root so the whole pool area is off limits for 3 weeks from Saturday 27th March.

At the last AGM (May 2010) I explained that our community would be making a donation to a local bird park in memory of Peter Druitt.

The donation was made to the Parque Regional de Salinas de San Pedro.

This month I have introduced something new to the website. It's an emailing feature that will let you all know automatically on a regular basis what new 'stuff' has gone on to the website like News Articles or Forum posts.

The grass area around the pool has had some weed killer applied to remove the clover. More will be used together with fertiliser to ensure the grass is up to scratch for the summer.

Bonsai now have the parts to reconstruct/repair the irrigation system and will do so as soon as possible. Bonsai are aware that there are a great many weeds in the sloping beds by blocks 4 and 5 and unfortunately these beds have to be weeded “by hand” and will take some time. Weed killer cannot be applied as it will also kill the succulents.

Our full time residents will certainly have noticed their electricity bills going up this year as they have for all owners. There were 3 rises last year and then a 9.9% rise in January.

Very pleased to say that 1422 have successfully ceased all business with Telefonica / Movistar ! They no longer supply our landline, ADSL, calls or mobiles.

I have taken on the job of meeting up regularly with David of Bonsai to make sure that our community gardens are maintained and improved. We have as of Jan 25th met up 3 times and I'll be putting out updates to keep you informed.

Before you know it we'll be *fondly* calling it 'Zenia Boulevard' just as 'Blue Water' and 'The Trafford Centre' have replaced the term 'shopping centre'.  We have the plans for it available in pdf form HERE if you want to see the stats and a map.

The new Sports Centre opened at the end of last year which was really good to see. It's not very well sign-posted and so there is a map at the end of this article for you.

You'll probably be very pleased to hear that airport workers in Spain have called off 22 days of strikes. Union members voted to cancel the strike after receiving guarantees over job security and conditions so no major disruption over the Easter holidays and into the summer that would have been a total pain for all of us, family and friends.

As most of you will be already aware there were two earthquakes yesterday in the Murcian town of Lorca, about 120km southwest of Alicante, one of 4.8 and the other 5.3 on the Richter Scale.
