Turning off your water.

As many owners leave their property for long periods of time you may be turning off the water to your property.

Turn off your water at the meter and NOT at the under kitchen sink tap pictured.

The valves or the taps themselves are beginning to fail; 3 in the last year in fact. This has caused some serious flooding in a top floor apartment, wall damage in a garage from a slow leaking ground floor apartment tap and in block 5 luckily there was no water damage but the tap actually came off in my hand when I went to turn it on prior to guests arriving.

These valves are buried in the wall and so replacing the valve is a messy job and in block 1 may involve two properties as some of these valves are set in shared walls.

If you're not turning off your water and leaving your apartment for long periods then please check your insurance policy as it may stipulate that you must turn off your water whilst the property is empty.

The water meters are located at different points throughout the community. Please make sure you know where yours is and if you turn your water off when you depart then please make sure that from now on you do so at the water meter only and try not to use the internal tap at all ie; leave it open.

Thank you
